Start with the topic you need

The autism coverage law in South Dakota

S.D. Codified Laws §§ 58-17-154 to 58-17-162 (mandate to cover applied behavior analysis for autism spectrum disorders at § 58-17-157; SL 2015, ch. 250, applicable to the first plan year, policy year, or renewal date on or after Jan. 1, 2016; amended by SL 2017, ch. 212, § 2, eff. Jan. 1, 2018; also amended by SL 2020, ch. 209, § 6, effective date not confirmed) See coverage details and sources.

Getting a new technician started in South Dakota

Under SD Medicaid a technician must already be an RBT (or BCaBA); there is no grace period in the manual, so RBT certification is the gating item before Medicaid billing. Licensing law separately expects background and fingerprint checks for paraprofessionals. Telehealth is allowed but the BCBA must see the child in person within 30 days and every 90 days. (Our research note; confirm with the agencies on the BT vs RBT page.)
