ABA and RBT guide for Texas

Last researched October 21, 2026

This guide collects what we could verify about autism therapy work in Texas. Each fact shows how confident we are and links to its sources.

Start with the topic you need

The autism coverage law in Texas

Tex. Ins. Code § 1355.015 (with applicability in § 1355.002) See coverage details and sources.

Getting a new technician started in Texas

For Texas Medicaid cases, a new technician needs a fully registered/certified credential (RBT, BCAT or ABAT) and the employer must have an enrolled, TDLR-licensed LBA to bill; no unregistered-BT grace window was found. Texas accepts BCAT/ABAT as alternatives to RBT for Medicaid, which could matter for onboarding. Non-Medicaid employers may use the licensing exemption in § 506.054 without RBT. (Our research note; confirm with the agencies on the BT vs RBT page.)
