Getting a new technician started in Nevada
Nevada has no unregistered-BT window: a new technician must first be BACB-registered as an RBT and then registered with the Nevada Board before providing ABA services, with fingerprints taken through LiveScan (results about 10-14 days per the Board). Ask the Board whether it is processing RBT applications on the new online platform and how long it takes; the Board must act within 120 days of a complete application by statute. Line up a named supervisor before applying. (Our research note; confirm with the agencies on the BT vs RBT page.)
What we are still checking
- Exact current Nevada RBT registration timeline in practice and any interim practice allowance while the application is pending (statute shows none).
- Whether the Nevada Board's out-of-state or BACB-eligible-but-not-yet-certified applicants have any provisional status.
- Current Nevada Medicaid managed care organizations covering ABA (only CareSource policy was sourced).
- ABA-specific telehealth rules (direct 1:1 by RBT, parent training, telesupervision) and modifiers for Nevada Medicaid and commercial plans.
- NRS 689C.1655 and 287.0276 (other plan types) were not read; self-funded ERISA plan applicability not stated.
- Employer-side or Medicaid-enrollment background-check, CPR or TB requirements for BTs were not found.
- Current fee schedule for the Board was copied from the web page and may have changed; confirm before publishing.
- autism_insurance_mandate: verifier astra marked conflict - The mandate, ages, statutory $72,000 language, individual optional-offer distinction, treatment plan and credential list are supported. Two notes conflict with current official text: (1) the self-insured-employer replacement provision and PEBP exclusion belong to NRS 689B.065(4), not 689B.0335(4); delete that attribution. The autism provision's subsection 4 prohibits visit limits subject to subsections 1–2. (2) Current NRS 689A.0435(5), like 689B.0335(5), requires prescribing and delivery by a health-care provider acting within scope; the narrower physician/psychologist/LBA-or-supervisee wording survives on the outdated Public.Law copy. The January 1, 2026 language is correctly in 689B.0335(6). NRS 689C.1655 was checked and requires small-employer coverage with the same ages and statutory ABA amount. NCSL's 2021 summary incorrectly generalizes optional coverage across the listed markets; use the current statutes. The cited autism provisions do not establish a comprehensive self-funded-plan exclusion; retain null rather than infer one.
- medicaid_aba: verifier astra marked conflict - Update the agency to Nevada Medicaid, Medicaid Division of the Nevada Health Authority; retain Gainwell. Correct references: all-age/EPSDT language is MSM 3704.1; supervision is 3704.3A; parent responsibilities are 3704.5(A)(1). The RBT diploma/equivalency, BACB training/testing and Nevada registration requirements are supported by 3704.3(A)(5). Its physician-direction wording does not override NRS 641D.610: an RBT's statutory supervisor must be a qualified licensed psychologist, LBA or LaBA; a psychologist must also hold BCBA/BCBA-D certification and meet supervisor requirements. The 20% supervision limit has a clinical-documentation exception in 3704.2A(1)(j). Parent attendance is required for home-based training/supervisory visits, with an authorized representative aged at least 18 permitted. The guide's hour ranges, combined codes, medical-necessity exceptions, rendering NPI and UD requirements are supported; UD also applies to authorization requests. Use the updated FA-11E. PT 85/60/47 and the four specialties are supported; no ordinary unregistered-technician billing category was identified.
