Practice requirements for ABA providers in Nevada
Last researched October 21, 2026
The internal processes a practice in Nevada has to run before and after a technician starts. A practice, not MeetAllo, remains responsible for compliance.
Requirements for practices
- Facility or agency license
We could not verify this yet - check with the state health or licensing department.
- Background checks
Board registration/licensure includes fingerprint-based state and FBI checks (NRS 641D.300). Employer-level or Medicaid-enrollment background-screening requirements were not verified, so this section does not establish that none exist.
- Staff training
RBTs: the state may not require additional education or training beyond the BACB RBT credential (NRS 641D.310(3)), and the Board may not adopt regulations requiring RBT continuing education (NRS 641D.360). This does not remove BACB credential-maintenance obligations. LBA/LaBA: must pass a state examination (jurisprudence exam); NAC 641D.160 also adds suicide-prevention instruction for LBA/LaBA renewal. Medicaid: parent/guardian participation is required where applicable, subject to the home-service qualifications in the Medicaid manual.
- Other requirements
Medicaid: PT 85 groups may not be linked with other provider types and the group NPI must be unique to the group (MSM 3704.4(E)-(F)). Treatment requires prior authorization; routine initial assessments/reassessments do not, subject to the 180-day limit. Covered diagnoses are not ASD-only: the PT 85 billing guide expressly includes fetal alcohol syndrome (FASD, Q86.0) and MSM allows other medically necessary conditions, although the billing guide's authorization discussion says ASD (F84.0) is required, an internal inconsistency in the sources. Only PT 85, PT 60 and PT 47 may bill ABA.
Medicaid supervision and enrollment
- Provider enrollment

- Supervision requirements
MSM 3704.3A addresses supervision; under NRS 641D.610 an RBT's statutory supervisor must be a qualified licensed psychologist, LBA or LaBA (a psychologist must also hold BCBA/BCBA-D certification and meet supervisor requirements). PT 85 billing guide: supervision is allowed up to 20% of treatment hours, with a clinical-documentation exception in MSM 3704.2A(1)(j). Prior authorization is required for adaptive behavior treatment (forms FA-11E, use the updated version, and FA-11F); authorization limits are 15-25 hrs/week (focused) and 25-40 hrs/week (comprehensive) across 97153, 97155 and 0373T unless exceeded with documented medical necessity. Parent/guardian attendance is required for home-based training and supervisory visits; an authorized representative aged at least 18 is permitted (MSM 3704.5(A)(1)).
National baseline for onboarding a technician
Items below are supported by BACB or regulator sources. Your state may add more.
- Verify RBT status on the BACB Certificant Registry (status, expiration, listed supervisor; red text means may not practice) or via portal verification report / $25 written verification.
- Ensure a qualified BCBA/BCaBA supervisor (with completed supervisor training 2.0) or RBT Requirements Coordinator lists the RBT as supervisee in their BACB portal before the RBT provides services as an RBT.
- Assign a supervisor/Coordinator for every client the RBT serves; no relation, employer-superior or multiple relationship with the RBT.
- Plan supervision: 5% of monthly service hours, at least two real-time contacts per month, one individual, one observation of services; document dates, durations, format, observations; retain 7 years.
- Criminal background check and abuse registry check comparable to those for home health aides/child care/teachers, within 180 days before the application is paid; fingerprinting may be required by state or organization.
- For applicants: have a BCBA/BCaBA Responsible Assessor (with 8-hour supervision training, same organization as applicant and clients, not related/subordinate/employed by the applicant at the time of assessment) complete the ICA after the 40-hour training; keep assessment records 7 years.
- Attesting Certificant for the application attestation must not be related to, subordinate to, or employed by the applicant.
- Correct worker classification (employee vs contractor) for RBTs; BACB may ask for a tax professional's written opinion in an ethics matter.
- For TRICARE ACD enrollment: RBT/ABAT/BCAT or state certification, current BLS/CPR, authorized ABA supervisor named, 10-year federal/state/county criminal and sex-offender history check.
- For Medicaid/commercial payers: confirm state Medicaid or payer definition of technician qualifications, enrollment and credentialing before billing (state-specific).
Verify any certified technician on the BACB certificant registry.
