ABA insurance and Medicaid coverage in Oklahoma

Last researched October 21, 2026

Who pays for ABA in Oklahoma, and what a practice has to do to bill them. Coverage details here come from statutes and agency pages we read, not from payer marketing.

Autism insurance mandate

Medium confidence: reputable secondary source
State mandate for autism coverage

Yes, the research found a state autism coverage law.

Statute

36 O.S. § 6060.21 (created by HB 2962, 2016 session; amended by SB 1240 § 8, effective November 1, 2022, per the fact-checker)

Age limits

As of 2026-10-21, the current text of 36 O.S. § 6060.21 reportedly covers autism spectrum disorder in individuals without an age restriction. SB 1240 § 8 (effective November 1, 2022) deleted the original age and progress restrictions. Historically, HB 2962 (plans issued or renewed on or after Nov 1, 2016) limited coverage to individuals under 9 years of age, or at least 6 years if not diagnosed or treated until after age 3, provided the individual continually and consistently showed sufficient progress and improvement as determined by the health care provider. Those historical limits no longer appear to apply.

Annual cap

As of 2026-10-21, no dollar or hours cap and no inflation adjustment appear in the current section, so there is no current inflation-adjusted figure to verify. The historical 2016 version capped ABA at 25 hours per week and $25,000 per year, with annual inflation adjustment by the Insurance Commissioner; SB 1240 § 8 deleted those provisions. The current statute provides that coverage 'shall not be subject to any limits on the number of visits' and incorporates the § 6060.11 parity requirements.

Excludes self-funded employer plans

We could not verify this yet - check with your state insurance department.

Notes

Coverage under the current section includes services provided or supervised by a board-certified behavior analyst, board-certified assistant behavior analyst, or licensed doctoral-level psychologist (subsection E). The insurer may review the treatment plan annually, excluding inpatient services; more frequent review requires an individual agreement, and the insurer pays the review costs. The 2016 exclusions for nongrandfathered individual/small group ACA plans and for limited-benefit policies (former subsection I) were deleted; assess limited-benefit exclusions through the incorporated § 6060.4(C) definition. The cited enrolled bill alone does not resolve whether self-funded (ERISA) plans are covered, so that question remains unverified and the mandate should not be presented as universally applicable.
